Tahiti is the biggest island (1045 square km) of French Polynesia, it is a high island, and it is part of the archipelago of society and particularly the Windward Islands. Its capital is Papeete. Its population is 180 000. It is composed of the main island "Tahiti Nui" and the small island "Tahiti Iti". The official language is French, many speak English and Tahitian. The Moorea island is located 18 km to the east, it is connected by several Ferries and planes rotations every day. The International airport is located 5 minutes from Papeete in the town of Faa'a. International hotel chains are located on the island, Intercontinental, Accor, Radisson, Meridien, Sheraton. The island is served by Air France, Air Tahiti Nui the local company, Air Calindonia, Air New Zealand and Hawaïan Airline. The climate is tropical. The Tahitians are known for their hospitality. There is also an International golf course, for surf fans, Teahupoo on the small island, home every year the international "Billabong Pro". During the month of July, major cultural events called "Heiva" take place, we can attend dance competitions and Tahitian racing canoes in the harbor Papeete. Also during the month of Otobre held leeward islands International racing canoe Hawaiki Nui Va'a.
